Zoe Benson from American Horror Story
Some cosplays are born of an intense need to represent a certain character. You’ve binge-watched the whole show, read all the comics, or have memorized the movie script by heart, and this character is your everything. Some cosplays are born out of a desire to represent a favorite piece of media, wear something cool, or fill out a group. For me, this cosplay made my list simply because I wanted to show my love for American Horror Story. American Horror Story is a show I love for many reasons. It’s campy, sometimes without intending to be, the subject matter is almost always right up my alley, and it’s not even scary. Coven was my favorite season, naturally, so I threw together a Zoe Benson cosplay. Zoe isn’t even my favorite character in Coven, but of all the seasons and all the characters, I thought she’d be one of the most recognizable (especially since most clothing in American Horror Story is just your average, every day clothing).
- Hat: Altar’d State (Similar)
- Wig: WigIsFashion 24″ dark blonde wig
- Top: Ebay
- Skirt: Kohl’s (Similar)
- Boots: Forever 21 (Similar)
This costume is so easy, it’s almost like cheating! One of the main reasons I wanted to do this costume is I love the fashion from Coven. When I got a big, floppy hat for Christmas, I knew I wanted to be one of the Coven witches as a simple, Sunday-of-the-con costume. After examining their outfits and looks, I decided Zoe Benson would be easiest for me to pull off, both in terms of difficulty and recognizability.
I already had the hat, skirt, and boots, so all I needed was the top and wig. I went for cheap versions of each to keep the cost of the costume low, and while they look cheap in person, I think they look pretty decent in the photos. I tried my best to look like a sullen, sad witch! 😉
There’s nothing I can really add to my Zoe Benson cosplay, props-wise, so I think I’m actually comfortable with the costume as-is. That never happens! The only thing I’d change for next time is doing a proper photo shoot — simple costumes necessitate great photos! — and maybe not wearing yesterday’s makeup (oops).
